Soft and pliant, heat and electricity resistant and immune to chemical damages, asbestos was considered to be the miracle mineral by its earliest users, the Greeks. Identical reasons made it extremely popular during the late 19th century onwards and were widely used as insulators to heat and electricity both for domestic and commercial purposes.

Asbestos was however not all blessings and medical scientists came to know after a series of experiments that the dreaded mesothelioma, a form of cancer that damages the protective mesothelium lining in your body. The disease becomes detrimental to all the organs in the body since the lining is meant to protect all organs of your anatomy. The renal disease is mostly caused by inhaling asbestos fibers in some form or other.

Most vulnerable to the attack of the disease is your pleura that is the external lining of the lungs as well as your chest cavity though other parts of your body like the peritoneum in the abdomen or pericardium around the heart could also be affected with it.

Asbestos particles, dusts and fibers could cause the disease. Naturally mesothelioma treatments are complicated and expensive. However, contrary to the popular belief, the disease has no relation with smoking.

Good news for you is that the attack of the disease is still rare. Around 2000 citizens in United States are attacked every year with it which is minimal compared to diseases like traditional form of cancer. However as the diagnosis is difficult, at the slightest doubts of its attack, you should pay a visit to the mesothelioma doctor for diagnosis and advice.
